L'histoire d'une arche (part3)

Il me fallait donc assainir tout ça. Je suis descendu jusque là où le mur était en forme. Car le mur d' origine lui même en chaux avait subit des "préjudices" du ciment. Ensuite j'ai rebati à l'ancienne avec un mortier à la chaux NHL 3.5 naturelle (2/3 sable 1/3 chaux) Le tout est maintenant très solide et fidèle aux origines...
So i had to clean all of that mess and give it some structural strength. So I took out the wall down to where it was in good condition. The concrete had also wasted part of the original wall. then I rebuilt the wall using the ancient techniques with an NHL 3.5 lime mortar (2/3 sand 1/3 lime). Now the wall is tough again and blends with the ancient part of the wall.



Si jamais vous vouliez faire ce genre de réparation je vous recommande pour l'accroche de:
- ne pas hésiter à casser tout ce qui vous parait fragile
- aspirer le plus gros de la poussière
- asperger avec beaucoup d'eau avant de mettre le mortier.
If you were to do the same kind of repair in your home I would recommend for the mortar to stick to:
- get rid of any chunk that seems to come loose easily
- vacuum all the dust out
- spray with a lot of water before chucking mortar in.




Le mortier parait gris plutôt que le blanc habituel de la chaux mais c'est le sable qui donne cette couleur. Pas de ciment portland en vue!
The mortar seems grayish rather than the usual white of lime, but that's due to our sand. No portland cement is used here... thankfully!


J'ai profité de la réfection du mur pour y encastrer des spots pour illuminer l'arche durant la nuit. Plutôt sympa non?
I took advantage of the situation to incorporate spotlights in order to enlighten the arch by night! pretty cool huh?


J'ai fini tard dans la nuit mais au moin c'est fini!
Working until late at night but at least it's finished!


Un ami Allemand, Raphaêl, est venu m'aider pour poser les anciennes tomettes.
A german friend, Raphaêl, came to give me a hand with the top bricks called "tomettes" in france.



Voici la première fois que je taille une brique pour venir s'encastrer autour du spot.
Here's the first time I carve a brick for it to fit around the spotlight.



Apparemment, dès que je me concentre vraiment je fais cette grimace plutot bizarre! ;-D
Obviously as soon as I focus too much on something i make this funny face !



Ensuite on étale du mortier à la consistance assez sèche.
Then we spread some rather dry and thick mortar.



Finalement il suffit de poser les tomettes (plongées dans l'eau au préalable) de chasser les bulles d'air, de remplir les joints et le tour est joué. Et comme vous pouvez le voir les spots fonctionnent!
All that's left to do is drop the flat bricks (previously dipped in water) get rid of air bubles, fill up the gaps and it's all done! And as you can see the lights work fine too!



Et voilà le resultat tel qu'on le voit depuis l'autre rive. Qu'en pensez vous?
